Diamond Jubilee Medal Nominations Close August 30

Hyer urges residents to nominate outstanding community members

THUNDER BAY – Today, Thunder Bay-Superior North MP Bruce Hyer is inviting members of the community to nominate remarkable local individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities, region or to Canada for the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. The nomination deadline is August 30, 2012

“There are so many outstanding individuals in our local communities. This medal is an opportunity to recognize residents from all ages and walks of life who have worked tirelessly for the good of the community, region, and the country,” Hyer said.

“Thunder Bay-Superior North has experienced some challenges this year, and it is in trying times like these that we often see exceptional individuals really go above and beyond,” Hyer continued. “I am pleased to have the chance to honour the many dedicated and selfless individuals on behalf of our region.”

People are invited to nominate residents, including seniors, women, Aboriginal peoples and youth, who have made a significant contribution to their community, to the region, or to Canada. Nominees must live in Thunder Bay-Superior North, hold Canadian citizenship or permanent residency and must be alive on February 6, 2012.

Recipients will be chosen by a non-partisan panel of local judges selected by the Member of Parliament, and will be awarded their medals at a special ceremony at the Prince Arthur Hotel on November 10, 2012.
